Privacy Policy
In short: H1 Lingo has no accounts and no ads, and it does not send your study data to us. Your progress stays on your device. The AI features send what you give them to Claude, through your own Claude account.
1. Who is responsible
Manuela Heinz and Padraig Heinz-Ward ("we", "us"), private individuals, run H1 Lingo. For privacy questions, email [email protected]. This policy explains how personal data is handled in line with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Irish data protection law.
2. What happens to your data

Because your progress and answers stay on your device and are not sent to us, we do not hold them and cannot see them.
3. Why we are allowed to use it (legal basis)
The only personal data we receive is what you choose to send us when you give feedback. We use it because you asked us to look at the problem (consent) and because it is necessary to improve a free study app (legitimate interests). We keep it minimal.
4. What we do not do
- No ads, no tracking cookies, no social media widgets. The only analytics are cookieless visit counts on our website (see above). The app itself has no analytics.
- No selling or sharing your data for marketing.
- No profiling or automated decisions that have a legal or similar effect on you. AI marks are a study guide only.
5. Who else is involved
- Anthropic provides Claude, which powers Puffin and Photo check, and hosts the app on claude.ai. See Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.
- Cloudflare hosts our website and delivers the PDF viewer library (cdnjs) when you open a past paper.
- Anthropic and other providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, for example in the United States, under their own safeguards. Please read their policies for details.
6. How long it is kept
- On your device: until you delete it (see section 8).
- Feedback you send us: we delete it within 90 days after the beta ends, or sooner if you ask.
- Data held by Anthropic and other providers: as set out in their own policies.
7. Your rights
Under GDPR you can ask us to give you access to, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold about you, to move it, and you can object to how we use it. If we rely on your consent you can withdraw it at any time. Email [email protected] and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland at dataprotection.ie.
8. Deleting your data
Everything the app stores is on your device. To remove it, open Me, then Privacy and data, then Delete my data on this device. You can also clear this site's data in your browser settings. For anything you sent to Anthropic, use your Claude account's settings.
9. Age
H1 Lingo is for people aged 18 or over. It is not aimed at children. If you believe someone under 18 has sent us personal data, tell us and we will delete it. If someone gives a false age to use the app, see section 2 of the Terms of Use.
10. Security
We do not run a server that stores your data. Keep your own device and browser secure. Do not put personal details such as your full name, school or address into the AI features or photos.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. The version and date are at the top. If the change is important, the app will ask you to accept the new version.
